SAFE ~ Jay Cox _ Original Mix & Dub
- [House] added March 05
I was watching a film on channel 5 and I fell asleep, I woke up to a
women talking about safe houses etc. I instantly wanted to sample
it. Safe is a full on house track with hypnotic groove. I
love brass but it has never fitted into any tune I have done, until this
one... It's quite funny, there is roughly a 50/50 split on who
likes the vocal and dub version.

Quite usually this is a housey remix of a Trance track... not
that many people have heard this yet but most are loving the remix over
the original. I wanted to keep the track intact as much as
possible rather than ripping it apart as I usually do!

DEVINE ~ Jay Cox
added 5th
July 05
Devine is the type of track you would hear Pete Tong play on
a Friday night warm up. Chunky percussion with a different
bassline style for me. I love the stabs in this! I wrote
the vocals for this and got someone who wants to be left un-named
for the moment to record them! This track sound awesome loud
and get a very positive reaction every time for me. It really
just a simple but effective track and It will remain not totally
finished till further notice though. Hope you like it :)
Torn (DUB MIX) ~ Jay Cox

April 05
Unusually, I set out to make a track today and I actually
got a result! It started quite dirty then changed into something
different which keeps growing on me the more I hear it. This
is the dub version, I have wrote 2 versus for it but I couldn't find
my voice! (current vocal is unsteady! sorry!)
A very nice synth I created on my Korg EA-1 which I have never used
properly in 4 years of having it!! Chunky percussion from the same
kit as "JAM". I put some strings in there to give it some
atmosphere, This is unfinished and needs a bit of work but I just
wanted to put it up here! Woohaa!
A BITA-ROUGH ~ Jay Cox
added 4th
April 05
As I was messing around with a nice chunky synth I
created a nice riff and I just had to do something with it. I
did the usual 8 bar loop left it for a day and in a rush to have it
played out by Omaha made a quick 10minute arrangement. I ended
up keeping the arrangement and added some more production later on.
Bita rough is a bit of a dirty number with the main synth being the
definite centre of attention. Complemented with a tough kick,
Bita-rough really is a bit of rough! Raaa. It seems to have a
damaging effect on the dance floor at the mo..
YOUR FACE ~ Jay Cox
added 4th
April 05
Being a fan of the simple 4/4 beat that's around at the mo I
started 'Your Face' from that. I found the synth riff almost
instantly and it all went from there. I could hear a
vocal in my head so I went for it and recorded it. I was quite
surprised with the result as my cat usually sings better! The
revolving synth in the background is my favourite part at the mo I
change it with different FX three times within the track. I
got the inspiration for this track from someone special. ;)
FALLING ~ Jay Cox Featuring Maria Reeves
added 23rd Oct 04
Continuing from the buzz of my Celestial remix I had a mess
around with the vocals from a rather tame track that I started with
Maria. I put a big riff down and from there nothing could stop
me! 80s synth sounds and sweet percussion. As soon as Maria
heard it she wanted to finish it ASAP so she came to the studio and
re-recorded the vocals. I'm quite happy with both drops in this
track too, and it looks like I am heading in the Electro house
direction :)
THE CAUSE ~ Jay Cox
added 25th Oct 04
I tried something a little bit different this time, I like the dirty synth riff and I have been hearing that instrument for a little while now and I had to use it :) The Cause has a techy progressive feel to it and a vocal that I recorded myself! The track is finished off nicely with an ambient pad. Hope you enjoy it...
CELESTIAL (Jay Cox Remix) ~ Jammer
added 20th Oct 04
Celestial was a great track to make, I got the samples from
Jammer and picked out my favourite sounds. This was the first
time I used a big synth and I was very pleased with the results. I
build everything up and drop to the original riff, filtering it up,
then BLAM! back into the big synth. This track is being talked about
:)
Cocaine ~ Jay Cox Remix (OLD TRACK)
added 5th
July 05
I decided to put Cocaine back up on the website, I done this
remix for Ben Gray a few years ago and only 250 vinyl were pressed.
I hope you enjoy it, I think I might even have a spare white label
hanging around if anyone wants one :)
NO ONE ~ Jay Cox Featuring Maria
Reeves
This is my favourite track at the moment, while Maria and I were in the
studio working on a track Maria started singing a track she wrote
when she was sixteen, when I heard it, I really liked it so, I
quickly put some percussion down. Maria sung the track all the way
though, it had a lot of key changes in it, so I sectioned off a loop
(the Chorus) and wrote a bass line to it, then put some chords to
it, more percussion and more rhodes. it worked perfectly! in
the verses Maria had to re-write the key changes to fit the music
and we had a track! The four part harmony in here is a blinder
and I think Maria loves it a bit too much :) This track needs one
more ingredient that I'm trying to think of at the mo, but I'm
excited about this track.
BACK TO BASICS ~ Jay Cox Featuring Maria Reeves
Basic to basics is a funkee track with a driving bass line, I
wrote this track with Maria in mind and she supplied and sung the
vocals that she previously wrote. The arrangement is quite
different but has proved to be quite popular with my friends. The
vocal harmonies work well, I enjoyed making this track.
BACK TO BASICS (Jay's Sore Throat
Mix)
After coming to dead ends in my production I decided to do a remix
of one of my tracks. Feeling pretty ill which makes me a
little more emotional I started with just the vocals and a loop. I
played a riff in which was very different but nice, I spend ages
trying to make a complicated bass line that didn't work and ended up
following the riff. I literally put my fingers straight on the
chords for the rhodes giving the track a very emotional feel.
Finally found a high synth with takes you further into emotional
bliss, for me anyway, rarely I hear tracks like this, even though
its different I'm quite proud of it
FEEL FOR
ME ~ Jay Cox Featuring Maria Reeves
Another track I wrote with Maria in mind. The track has an
eastern US feel to it. This was the first of our tracks that Maria
sung live and it worked really well. People seem to like this one
instantly, the hook is simple and has 4 layers including the bass
line. Maria again put one of her old songs over the top of
this track and it fitted perfectly.
SUNSHINE ~ Jay Cox Featuring
Maria Reeves
While playing with a new plug-in NI Elektrik piano I made the rhodes riff and went from there, putting the rhodes through filters was
a nice touch to keep the track moving. This was one of those tracks
that went smoothly and it took about 3 hours to complete from start
to finish. A
different track again but with a nice driving bass line.
ILLEGAL DOWNLOADS ~ Jay Cox
added 5th
July 05
I have had this idea for a while now, and I have been
so busy lately but I managed to sneak in a few hours in the studio
to write this track. The groove in this track is so different
but very catchy. The use of normal drums in the beat seems
quite effective. A very simple bassline complemented with
stabs from all directions. I'm quite excited about this track
and I can't wait till I play it out. I recorded the vocals but
I am not happy with them, so ill be recording them again very soon.
I hope you enjoy this track, but listen to it a few times!
FUNKING ~ Jay Cox
added 5th
July 05
I have play this track out how it is twice now and it got
people up both times. It's only 80% finished at the mo, and im
toying with the idea of a vocal hook over the top. I
really enjoyed doing the percussion for this track and is well nice
to mix in to another track! The cheeky bassline rolls on till
the chords come in and the direction changes again. (lookout
for a vocal mix with Amrick Channa)
RASPBERRY CAKE ~ Jay Cox
I have always loved the track Raspberry Beret by Prince and I
had been planning to do a mix of it for years. I finally got
hold of the track the same time as I made some interesting
percussion. The sample fitted perfect over the top., It's
one of those tracks for me that sounds interesting all the way
through, I don't get bored of the loop. Using different
filters over the samples and putting a driving bass line over the top
seemed to make the wait worth while. This track is very
popular with my friends and is played out regularly.
JAM ~ Jay Cox
What can I say about Jam! well originally I wrote a track with
Ridney which he got pressed onto acetate, the track worked well.
A year or so later I decided to do a remix and came up with the "Jay
Cox Woohaa Remix" Paul, and I never agreed on terms to release it so
it just got left. I know a few DJs that still play that track
now and like the fact that not many people have it!
I have had several offers on releasing it including offers from Paul
"F1" King to remix and release it.
Ridney plays my remix of Jam on
his website which I don't mind :) I wrote Raspberry Cake is the
style of Jam, saving the main riff to the breakdown, and teasing the
riff in bit by bit. This track is still going strong, I wonder
what the future will bring.
ACOUSTICA ~ Jay Cox & Dan Apps
added 4th
April 05
My second track with Dan, it obvious we work well
together. Acoustica is our best track to date and had been in the
world DMC trance chart form weeks reaching no. 32 on under 10 copies
send out for DJs to play. Acoustica starts with a very
catchy Harp sounding riff. Accompanied by choir vox and emotional
strings Acoustica goes in the break with power. The main riff
kicks in over the dominating bassline.
Acoustica Always gets a good reaction from the crowd and with a vocal mix
in progress and a Mike Foyle Remix, Acoustica is set to go far.....
TRAKKER ~ Jay Cox
added 25th Jan
05
I finally finish a track! The past couple of months I
have been doing bits and pieces and have finished nothing!
Trakker is a cross between Electro and Trance, but more on the
trance side really! I'm pretty happy with the production on this and
I really enjoyed making a track different from my usual style.
Maybe I'm going in this direction! who knows :)
U4ic DJ's ~ Jay Cox & Dan Apps
added
30th Jan 05
This is the first hard dance track I have produced in ages. I
got together with U4ic DJ's AKA Dan Apps and Phil Collins. Phil
couldn't make some sessions but still have some input on the track.
This trance track is different I hope you enjoy it..
U4ic DJ's
(Steve Birch Remix) ~ Jay Cox & Dan Apps
added 30th Jan 05
JOOF's Steve Birch takes on the remix and gives it a more euphoric
feel. A lot of Steve's work is being supported by Radio One's
Dave Pearce. Hopefully he'll be playing this remix soon :)
I have decided to leave all my old hard house off of this site.
